One component of our piece presently is the green screen (chroma keying). “The virtual reality technology is used to simulate the virtual background in real time and produce an effect that the man exists in the virtual setting.” (Qi, 2011, p.18). This concept has a connection to the Plaintext Player’s project titled Virtual Live (2002), as it adapts a “live actor shot on site […] using green-screen technology and mixed digitally with a preconstructed video environment” (Plaintext Players, 2002).
We tested the effect in a TV Studio using the Open Broadcaster Software (https://obsproject.com/). The effect seemed to work effectively, placing our physical selves as a superimposition onto a digitally created image. The main challenge now is to use the software with a new green screen and figures. The video test is located within the link below.
